JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Trap Screener

DEPARTMENT: Laboratory

REPORTS TO: Lab Manager

CLASSIFICATION: Seasonal

STARTING PAY: $_____ Hourly (Non-exempt)

WORK HOURS: 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday (8 hours per day)

BENEFITS: Paid Sick Leave, Paid Holidays, Paid 401A Retirement Plan

SUMMARY: Under general supervision, you will conduct screening using panel sticky traps. This position is essential for protecting the citrus industry by actively identifying and analyzing target pests.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

• Screen and analyze insect traps for specific pest species.

• Accurately identify and record findings using provided tools and documentation systems.

• Maintain focus and attention to detail while performing repetitive tasks.

• Follow established protocols and safety procedures.

• Communicate any unusual findings or concerns to supervisors.

• Has a basic understanding of insect biology.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None

 

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

• Excellent close-range vision and attention to detail.

• Ability to sit and perform a single task for extended periods.

• Comfortable working in a quiet, focused environment.

• Ability to follow detailed instructions and maintain accurate records.

• Previous experience in entomology, agriculture, or lab work is a plus but not required.

ENVIRONMENTAL SETTING AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Lab screening is done 100% indoors in a controlled temperature. Work may involve continuous repetitive wrist, hand, and finger movements. Additionally, employees should be capable of sitting for long periods, reaching, bending, stooping, and kneeling as necessary. Employees must have close visual acuity to distinguish small details and insects. There may be a need to lift and carry items weighing up to 20 pounds, walk short distances, and drive a vehicle for material delivery and pickup purposes. Proper lighting and ergonomic seating are provided to ensure comfort during extended periods of detailed work.

 

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

Any combination of experience and education that could provide the required knowledge and ability is qualifying. This would typically include:

• Graduation (or equivalent) from an accredited high school, preferred.

• Coursework or background in biology, agriculture, entomology, or environmental science is a plus.

• Prior experience in laboratory work, microscopy, or pest identification is highly desirable but not required.

• On-the-job training will be provided for candidates who meet the visual and physical requirements and demonstrate attention to detail.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Possession of a valid California Driver's License.

• Must pass a background check.
